Extinguishing the Lies of the Enemy
I’m not a smoker, but, based on my observations, I think there must be a training course on the various ways to smoke.
- Smoking 101 is all about how to tap on the pack of cigarettes before you open it.
- Smoking 102 is all about how to light a cigarette while squinting your eyes, inhaling deeply, and then exhaling slowly.
- Smoking 103 is all about how you hold the cigarette – whether between two fingers, or between the thumb and first finger, or by dangling it from your mouth.
- And finally, Smoking 104 teaches you how to extinguish a cigarette by dropping the cigarette butt straight down on the ground, placing the ball of your foot on it, and twisting back and forth to grind it into the ground before walking away.
(I know, I know… I’m wondering where I’m going with this thing too!)
I read Jesus’ words this morning and was reminded about the authority He has given us over the enemy.
“Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.”Luke 10:19 ESV
Sure, it’s true the Satan and his demon cohort are powerful and evil, always lurking about, seeking to destroy our families, our health, and our confidence. But the power of the enemy is no match at all against the power of God. And God’s power dwells within every person who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ!
So, the next time the enemy comes against you, you can drop him like that cigarette butt, stand on him by declaring God’s word, and grind his lies into the ground.
In Romans 16:19, Paul reminds us that Satan is under our feet! Take authority over him in Jesus’ name. Greater is He who is in you than he that is in the world!
That’s a good one, thanks.
Love your outlook on life and your ability to connect Biblical principles to our work a day world.
