Humility Brings Blessing

Humility is not a natural disposition, it is a daily decision. But the benefits of choosing to be humble are well worth the discipline it requires.

“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”  James‬ ‭4:10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

King Hezekiah was one of very few Old Testament kings who “did what was right in the sight of the Lord.” He tore down idolatrous images, he cleaned up messes left by previous leaders, and he led his people back to the ways of the Lord – decisions that came with personal cost.

The results of his strong but humble leadership are clear:

“And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, in the law and in the commandment, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart. So he prospered.” ‭II Chronicles‬ ‭31:21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Pride assumes and depends on its own strength, ability, and intellect; but humility acknlowledges weakness, is aware of blind-spots, and actively depends on the strength of God for any and every success.

  • Sometimes I want to defend myself.
  • Sometimes I want to be heard.
  • Sometimes I want to be right (even when I’m not).

But God resists the proud.

The good news is He gives grace to the humble. Humility always leads to blessing.

Father- I choose to humble myself before You. Help me to please You with my attitudes and actions. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A statement worth remembering and quoting as sometimes we don’t realize we are being prideful until we look at ourselves from another perspective. Thank you again Pastor Dale!

  2. Sadly, too many in people begin with good intentions, but somehow they grown in their own strength and forget that it is in HIM that we truly grow and prosper in all that we do. I was in ministry for years but currently I am on extended sabbatical… it hurts my heart when i see so many leaders who express very little humility.
