Tolerance and Truth

Truth is polarizing. It can be rejected or accepted, but it will not be affected one way or another- it will still be truth.  Many people, over the course of thousands of years, were moved by God to write letters, historical accounts, prayers, songs, poetry, or prophetic messages under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit – the compilation of which we refer to as the Holy Bible, God’s word.  Two examples are Jeremiah, the Old Testament (weeping) prophet, whose unenviable job was to confront Israel’s sin and rebellion; and John, the New… Read More

A Disciplined Believer

The journey of faith is made one practical step at a time.  The Apostle Paul referred to the life of a believer as a race to be run with discipline and determination.  Like a track coach to his cross country team, Paul said: “Run to win! Don’t be distracted or lazy – work hard and you’ll finish strong!” (my paraphrase of 1 Cor. 9:24-26) Paul goes on to say: But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. (‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭27‬… Read More

Your Window of Opportunity

I’m convinced that God often gives us opportunities that appear insignificant, but, when taken advantage of, lead to significant blessing. These windows of opportunity are often accompanied by the gentle voice of the Holy Spirit, opening our eyes to a situation and prompting us to take action. Philip sensed such an opportunity in Acts 8:29. Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go up and join this chariot.” (‭Acts‬ ‭8‬:‭29‬ NASB) Philip could have easily talked himself out of this prompting. Why would such a high ranking person in this chariot listen to… Read More

Three Warnings for Leaders

Although leadership has its privileges, it comes with a unique set of challenges. Within a period of just a few hours the Apostle Paul faced three challenges that provide warnings to spiritual leaders today. When Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and put them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat and fastened on his hand. When the native people saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “No doubt this man is a murderer. Though he has escaped from the sea, Justice… Read More

When Dads Pray For Their Kids

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. (‭3 John‬ ‭1‬:‭4‬ ESV) My son began his Junior year of high school this week. He is an exceptional student, an accomplished actor, a naturally-gifted vocalist, and a diligent employee. And He loves Jesus. My daughter is a Freshman at Liberty University, majoring in Speech Communications. She is a natural leader, a loyal friend, a faithful worker, and gifted vocalist. And she loves Jesus. The aged Apostle John wrote several letters to individuals/churches with whom he… Read More
